Athens Left Field is an independent, revolutionary socialist publication based in Athens, Ohio. Founded on June 1, 2020, we are published by Athens County Revolutionary Socialists (ACRS), a local grassroots organization. We are self-funded by ACRS membership and small donations; we will never take money from or sell advertisements to businesses.
The goal of our publication is to be a radical voice in Athens County on the side of working-class and oppressed people. We therefore cover, analyze, and shine a light on local news and circumstances with this mission in mind. Furthermore, Athens Left Field publishes wider discussions and debates on the anti-capitalist left, both within Athens and beyond. Finally, as an ACRS publication, we also hope to foster healthy discussion pertinent to our members’ political activities.
Capitalist ideas permeate our news sources, our schools, and our everyday lives, because it is capitalists who own the resources on which all of these things depend. Workers therefore need to create our own spaces to discuss and share our ideas, our stories, and our truths. Athens Left Field is one such space.
